Confronting oppression and dominant culture perspective in Minnesota

Presenter/Facilitator - Dr. Arnoldo Curiel

This workshop is designed for those who have knowledge of the Oppressionbasics of white privilege and oppression, and want to acquire practical skills in dealing with oppression as it occurs in their personal lives, at work or anywhere else. The workshop will develop the participants' active listening skills, as well as help practice skills to respond to overt oppression (i.e. oppressive remarks), and covert oppression (privilege, micro-aggression, etc).

The skills learned in this workshop can be easily applied and taught to others to create more inclusive environments in our lives. Come explore how the dominant culture affects, influences, and often harms others. Sometimes this is intentional, often it happens without awareness of thoughts, words and actions.

Dr. Arnoldo Curiel has over 15 yrs experience in racial equity and inclusion. Prior to starting his own consulting business recently, he worked at YWCA Minneapolis where he provided leadership and represented the organization, both locally and nationally, on racial equity and public policy related issues. He has provided countless multicultural trainings for organizations. Arnoldo is a graduate of Metropolitan State University. He holds a Master’s degree in Public Affairs from the Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota and an Educational Doctorate from Hamline University.

MAGNT, the Minnesota chapter of the Association for Global New Thought, offers activities to expand consciousness. Its purpose is to inspire, inform and empower people to create an awakened world. MAGNT is supported by local Unity churches and Centers for Spiritual Living.

There is no admission fee for MAGNT programs unless specified. Donations are welcome. No need to pre-register. Just come and be warmly included. Come to learn, to ask questions, and to engage in spirited conversation with the group.

We look forward to seeing you.
