What if social justice issues are, at their roots, a struggle between two kinds of consciousness? What if our social actions are primarily motivated by a desire to help humanity shift from perceiving humans as separate, isolated beings to knowing ourselves as interconnected beings in this life journey together? What understandings become visible if we drop from the level of creating change by looking primarily at policies and laws and focus as well on becoming better informed about consciousness?

Join us to explore this exciting territory! Whether you are actively involved in creating a more equitable society through your involvement in organizations, your discussions with friends and family, the way you ingest news, or something else, you owe it to yourself to look to understand consciousness more deeply. Come, jump in, and see how your views about social change morph with new ideas that can hold your values more fully.

The format includes an opening guided meditation to invite us into the field of consciousness, a presentation, small and large group discussion and a movement exercise that lets us view this topic from another perspective.

Ethan Nuss is a grassroots organizer, trainer, and dedicated mediation practitioner with over 15 years of experience organizing social movements for climate and environmental justice. His work includes helping organize the largest lobby day in US history, working directly with frontline communities most impacted by pollution, and direct action campaigns to stop dirty energy projects. He currently works as a Senior Organizer for Rainforest Action Network and is a member of Common Ground Meditation Center.

Kaia Svien, MS, is a mindfulness meditation instructor, cultural change agent, spiritual mentor, author, and former adjunct professor in the Holistic Health Studies Master’s Program at St Catherine’s University. A member of Common Ground Meditation Center, she teaches intermediate level meditation. Kaia offers workshops on the “Work That Reconnects” developed by Joanna Macy, and “For European Americans, Healing Our Relationship with the Ancestors.”

MAGNT, the Minnesota chapter of the Association for Global New Thought, offers activities to expand consciousness. Its purpose is to inspire, inform and empower people to create an awakened world.

There is no admission fee for MAGNT programs unless specified. Donations are welcome. No need to pre-register. Just come and be warmly included. Come to learn, to ask questions, and to engage in spirited conversation with the group.

We look forward to seeing you.
